Rumor: iTunes App Store to get premium games section

Posted in iphone, news on January 30th, 2009 by brent – Be the first to comment

It's hard to say that iPhone isn't a promising gaming platform. No wonder Apple always keeps moving forward in this field. As part of their roadmap, Apple is planning to offer a premium games section to its iTunes App Store, say sources. A range of iPhone and iPod Touch games will be sold for $19.99.

iphone_simcitySeems only large mobile games publishers like EA Mobile and Gameloft -- rather than the thousands of 'indie' developers-- could selling their titles in this section.

But, it's fine.

From some viewpoints, introducing a premium games section to the App Store makes sense. Apple is keen to pitch iPhone and iPod touch as potential DS and PSP killers, but before they make the necessary investment in higher quality games, large publishers will surely want higher price points and more guarantee that these titles won't get buried in the App Store crowd.

iClipper: Copy and paste without jailbroken iPhone

Posted in iphone, news on January 29th, 2009 by brent – Be the first to comment

iPhone users already had several softwares or solutions in doing copy and paste, but seems most of them have a few drawbacks: all the text you copy and paste get sent over the Internet (iCopy), works only within the app - so there is no cross-app copy and pasting (MagicPad) or it works only with the jailbroken iPhones (Clippy).

apple-iphone-keyboardBut now, there's "a very promising bookmarklet that allows iPhone users to copy and paste Web content to an email with two clicks," as ReadWriteWeb wrote. "The bookmarklet, while still fragile, works very well. It does a great job of capturing the text."

Kent Bewster, its creator, explained:

  • Bring up Safari on your iPhone, go to the page you want to copy from, and click the little book-shaped thingie in the bottom bar. Either your History or Bookmarks bar will probably come up; you want Bookmarks, and then Bookmarks Bar.
  • Click your iClipper bookmark, and then tap whatever you want to copy.
  • If all goes well, your e-mail client will pop up with a message filled in. The subject line will be the title of the page you're on right now; the body will be the text contents of whatever you tapped on the page.
  • From here you can send the contents wherever you want, or simply save as a draft. Presto, copy and paste.

I haven't tried it, but once you've installed and used it, let us know your experience on this.

iphone_logo1The firmware update 2.2.1 addresses two issues: (1) improved general stability of Safari; and (2) fixed issue where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll.

Unfortunately, there are still no any new "native" fuctionalities like a cut and paste or Bluetooth file transfer to other devices.

Okay, maybe next time...

An app called iBluetooth is bringing you one of the most awaited features ever for the iPhone: Bluetooth file transfer. Not only between iPhone and iPhone 3G, but  iBluetooth also can support file exchange between both the Apple smartphone and computers, as well as other Bluetooth-capable devices.

ibluetooth_demoAs you can see in the video, the team behind iBluetooth is working with an iMac and a Sony Ericsson handset.

You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone for this.

Not yet released, but once it is finished and available through Cydia.
